I was very suprised to see Depp on the list, I thought he'd be ignored for sure.

Sean Aston belongs in the "best supporting actor" catagory.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That's the problem with the 5 nominee maximum. If Aston was there, it would've been a snub for one of the actors who are there.Originally posted by Andyman:

YES! Les Invasions Barbare got 2 nominations!
And OSAMA who just beat the Barbarian Invasions in the foreign film category at the Golden Globe isn't even nominated at the Oscar!
Double YES!

I have yet to see The Barbarian Invasions, but it'd be nice for a Canadian film to win it.
There always seems to be some odd exclusions in the Foreing language categories. This year it's Osama, last year it was City of God (maybe to its advantage, judging by the nominations this year).
Well The Academy and The Globes are really two different crowds since the Globes are foreign press. They're not necessarely touched by the same things.
And the foreign film category is a weird one sometimes. tewo years ago Amelie had many nominations in other categories than best foreign films and didn't win.
It is Denis Arcand's 3rd nomination (He's been nominated in 86 for the Decline of the american Empire and in 89 for Jesus of Montreal) and i think this year is the year.
I just read that City of God was not allowed to be nominated for Best Foreign Language film in 2002 because it was aired on Brazillian TV- the same grounds they used to eliminate Bloody Sunday.
